CONTROVERSY TRAILS NUJ CHAIRMANSHIP ELECTION    As Paul Bazia steps down

 
The chairmanship election between Mr. Paul Bazia of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Mr Ogboka Umeda of the Rivers State Television has ended in controversial circumstances as no clear winner emerged .
 
A source revealed that Bazia was pressured into stepping down for Ogboka of the RSTV. 
A development which angered his supporters.
 
Unconfirmed reports has it that a 3 man caretaker committee has been considered to pilot the affairs of the Union pending when all issues are settled and an election conducted.
  
A source allege governments interference in the election a situation which made it impossible for the union to have a smooth transmission of power.
 
 
The triennial delegates conference of the Union which was earlier scheduled for January 15 2025, held yesterday at the NUJ conference center Moscow road, Port Harcourt .
 
The guest speaker Elder Ignatius Chukwu admonished Journalist to be upright in performing their duties.
He said “The university will give you knowledge, but journalism will put your knowledge to the test”
 
Whoever emerges later will takeover from the Outgoing chairman Mr. Stanley Jobs whose tenure has faced criticism from union members over allegations of lack of transparency and accountability.
