A tragic suicide bombing struck a bustling market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night, leaving at least 10 people dead and several others wounded.
The explosion occurred at a busy fish market during peak hours when traders and shoppers had gathered in large numbers. According to security officials, the attacker, believed to be a Boko Haram operative blended in with the crowd before triggering an explosive device.
“The bomber, who also perished in the blast, disguised as an ordinary civilian,” confirmed a local security source, Makama.
Troops of the Nigerian Army and emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene, and the injured were immediately transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene, with bodies strewn across the area and survivors crying for help amid thick clouds of smoke. The chaos, they said, was worsened by the fact that the attack occurred at a time when market activity was at its peak.
Security forces have since sealed off the area to prevent further attacks and to allow ongoing investigations.
This incident marks yet another grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by insurgents in the northeast region.
