As the countdown to the 2026 Ekiti governorship election begins, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked off its mobilisation efforts, reaffirming its determination to reclaim the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The renewed momentum follows the recent release of the election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which schedules the PDP’s governorship primary in Ekiti State for October 2025.
During a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday in Ido Ekiti, Ido-Osi Local Government Area, party members from five local councils gathered to discuss plans for revitalizing the PDP’s grassroots structure in the state.
Mr. Funso Ayeni, a former senatorial candidate and convener of the meeting, stressed the urgency of reconnecting with party members across the Ekiti North Senatorial District, urging leaders to mend fences and unite ahead of the polls.
“This is the moment to mobilise our base and engage our people. The majority of votes in the next election will come from this district, and we must begin that groundwork now,” Ayeni said.
He acknowledged internal challenges within the party but dismissed them as typical hurdles found in all political organisations.
“There is no party without issues, but I’m confident that our National Working Committee (NWC) is working to restore order. With ongoing consultations, I believe unity will return and we’ll be ready to win again,” he stated.
Ayeni also appealed to aggrieved members to return and recommit to the party’s success, emphasizing that the PDP’s survival depends on collective responsibility and shared values.
“Our party is alive and strong. The best thing we can do for it now is to ensure its relevance. That requires teamwork, reconciliation, and focus.”
With just a few months to the primaries, the PDP appears to be gearing up for an intense political battle, hoping to galvanise support and secure victory in the 2026 governorship election.
