The controversy surrounding Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has taken a sharp turn as outraged customers begin to close their accounts in protest, following the arrest of outspoken social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM).
According to reports from Intel Region, VDM was arrested in Abuja by security operatives—an incident that quickly drew public scrutiny after speculation emerged that GTBank may have played a role. This comes just days after VDM openly criticized the bank for unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account.
The backlash has intensified online, with several users rallying behind VDM and calling for accountability from GTBank. One user, Lekan Adeyemi (@adeyemilekan), tweeted:
“In solidarity with VDM & mum, I’m closing ALL my 6 accounts with GTBANK asap. By this post, I am instructing my children and family to do same… Injustice to one is injustice to ALL.”
His statement quickly gained traction, prompting others to follow suit:
