IKWERRE MEDIA PRACTITIONER’S ……………PRESS STATEMENT

The Ikwerre Media Practitioner’s Association of Nigeria ( IMPAN) is an umbrella body of all Ikwerre practicing journalists in Rivers State, which cut across the four Ikwerre speaking Local Government Areas, mainly, Obio/ Akpor, Ikwerre, Emouha and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.

The group had watched the political crisis in Rivers State, and with the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the 27 State Lawmakers, which further triggered and heightened the political crisis in the State.

However, this group is concerned about name calling and threat to life of the FCT Minister, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike, by various ethnic groups in Rivers State, and other mushroom organizations, especially, the Ijaw Youth Congress ( IYC) as well as some other sponsored groups.

Ordinarily, we , the members of the Ikwerre Media Practitioner’s Association of Nigeria IMPAN, a pen professional body, wouldn’t have reacted or responded to these empty and watery threats on the FCT Minister, but to let the public to know that no body or ethnic group has the monopoly of war.

As a peaceful media association, though, from the ikwerre extraction uses it’s pen to project, build and promote the interest of Ikwerre Sons and daughters in particular and the society at large.

But, we are constrained to react to certain comments and statements from some quarters threatening the life of our brother, Son, and a serving Fct minister, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike.

Without mincing words, we want to use the medium to condemn the recent display of corpse and obituary posters with the inscription of the FCT Minister as though dead. That act of hatred being perpetuated by one Hilder Dokubo and her co-travellers was not only barbaric, but uncivilized, Childish and unreasonable.

Secondly, we want to also condemn the social media propaganda that Chief Barr Nyesom Wike felt down in a public function at Abuja and as a result developed a partial stroke and flown to France for urgent medical attention. All these are lies from the pit of hell and disseminated by the agents of darkness. Thanks be to God that Chief Barr Nyesom Wike is sound and healthy, carrying out his official assignments diligently at the federal capital territory, Abuja.

To this end, we, the Ikwerre Media Practitioner’s Association of Nigeria, wish to warn for the last any body or group of persons who intentionally or unintentionally carries an unsubstantiated information against the Hon Minister of the FCT, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike would be made to face strict consequences.

2: That all those who are calling for war in Rivers State should realize that the effects of war touches every nooks and crannies.
