The Federal Government has approved a massive ₦80 billion investment for infrastructure upgrades across Nigeria’s Unity Schools in 2025, marking what officials describe as an unprecedented commitment to education reform.
Breakdown of the Allocation:
- ₦40 billion for rehabilitation and upgrades
- ₦20 billion for security, fencing, and access control
- ₦20 billion for solar energy installations
The announcement was made by Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, after delivering the 2025 Convocation Lecture at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. His speech, titled ‘Patriotism, Citizenship and National Ownership’, emphasized the role of collective responsibility in shaping Nigeria’s future.
“No administration in our history has committed this much to our Unity Schools,” Alausa stated, crediting President Bola Tinubu’s leadership for the milestone.
YOUTH FUNDING PROGRAMMES ANNOUNCED
Alausa also revealed new initiatives to empower young Nigerians:
- A Youth Venture Capital Grant of up to ₦10 million for student entrepreneurs
- Single-digit interest loans available through the Bank of Industry (BoI)
“This is a government focused on creating opportunities for young Nigerians,” Alausa affirmed.
These programmes are part of a broader strategy to revitalize the education sector while unlocking economic opportunities for the next generation.
