The Delta State government has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering youths with high-demand digital skills and career opportunities to excel in the rapidly evolving field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
DELTA STATE’S VISION FOR A DIGITAL FUTURE
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Odinigwe Odigie, made this declaration at the launch of the ICT Youth Empowerment Programme in Asaba, the state capital. He emphasized the government’s dedication to positioning Delta youth at the forefront of technological advancement.
“We recognize that our greatest asset is our youth, and by investing in their ICT skills, we are investing in their future,” Odigie stated.
Highlighting the importance of digital transformation, he added:
“The future is digital, and we will ensure that our youths are not left behind but are leading the way in technology. In a world driven by digital innovation, ICT literacy is no longer optional; it is essential.”
ICT YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME: A GATEWAY TO DIGITAL CAREERS
The ICT Youth Empowerment Programme is designed to Mentor, Orient, Resource, and Empower (MORE) young individuals, equipping them with:
- Hands-on ICT training aligned with industry standards
- Entrepreneurship opportunities to foster self-employment
- Cutting-edge digital tools to prepare them for the jobs of today and the innovations of tomorrow
300 DELTA YOUTHS SELECTED FOR DIGITAL TRAINING
As part of the initiative, over 300 Delta youths have been selected to undergo intensive ICT training. These participants, drawn from all 25 local government areas, will receive advanced training in digital technology, coding, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and other high-demand ICT fields.
After completing the program, the youths will be provided with entrepreneurial support, access to ICT hubs, and digital work opportunities to boost their employability and self-reliance.
DRIVING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
Commissioner Odigie described the ICT training program as a milestone in Delta State’s digital transformation agenda. He reiterated that the government remains committed to fostering an environment where youths can thrive in Nigeria’s digital economy and beyond.
