The Chief Medical Director ( CMD) of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, ( UPTH) Prof. Henry Arinze Ogboma, has called for collaboration and partnership with relevant authorities, spirited individuals and multinationals with the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital on the areas of infrastructure and equipment needs of the hospital.
Prof. Ogboma made the call in his address marking the 45th UPTH Anniversary and Endowment fund launch in port Harcourt.
Ogboma who is the host of the UPTH 45th anniversary And Endowment fund launch, said that the federal government alone cannot cater for the responsible of infrastructure and equipment needs of the hospital, hence the solicit for support and collaboration with well meaning individuals, and other agencies to improve on the standard of the hospital.
” Therefore, I urge you to kindly key into the vision of our forefathers in building a first rate world class hospital built to serve the citizens of the south south region and Nigeria at large”.
According to him, the management of UPTH also launched a 5 years strategic plan for the hospital as a road map to ensure maximum productivity and to attain a world status in service delivery, research and training, which he said, are the core mandate of the hospital to train several professionals within and outside the country.
He posted that several clinical and medical break throughs with testimonies from beneficiaries have been recorded, and over the years, healthcare professionals, Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, scientists, physiotherapists have delivered their expertise and selfless services to the public.
He disclosed that UPTH have a total of 674 Nurses, 54 registered pharmacists and other clinical staff, even as he opined that there has been an upgrades on the inherited projects from previous administrations which he said, has been completed and are already in use.
Earlier, Co- Chairman , Local Organizing Committee ( LOC) University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH, Prof. Chijioke. A Nwauche, said that the theme , of the UPTH 45th Anniversary And Endowment fund is, ” Repositioning for Excellent Healthcare Delivery, Medical Innovations And Manpower Development”, aliens with UPTH’s corporate world class tertiary hospital, committed 10 outstanding medical services, human resources development and training specialization in the Niger delta region.
He further stated that the weeks programs commemorates series of events and programs reflecting on UPTH history and renewed vision, which includes, thanksgiving services, medical outreach, health walk and novelty football match, Alumni Day activities, Anniversary lecture, colloquium, Awards, and the Endowment fund launch among others.
Ogboma maintained that the 10 Billion Endowment fund is aimed at advancing critical hospital projects, completing on going infrastructure, procuring vital medical equipments , and enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery to the people of Rivers State and Nigeria and beyond.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof. S J S Cooked, said that the journey so far in UPTH has not been easy, saying that through collaboration, team work and dedication of all stakeholders, UPTH was able to come thus far.
He, recalled that the establishment of UPTH in 1980, as a college hospital in Emouha Local Government Area of Rivers State with 60 bed spaces, pointing out that the requirements to begin a teaching hospital that time was a 200 bed spaces capacity with other health professionals, such as Prof SJ S Cookey, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.
Also speaking, the Rivers State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, said that her ministry completely aliens herself with UPTH 45th anniversary And Endowment fund launch.
Dr . Oreh who was represented by Director, special programs, Ministry of Health, Dr. Mina Briggs, said that the CMD UPTH, Prof. Henry Arinze Ogboma, has made the state proud by recording remarkable achievements as the CMD, UPTH.
She, commended the CMD for a job well done while congratulating UPTH for its 45th years of anniversary.
The quest of Honour, and Coordinating Minister of Health and social welfare, Mohammed Ali , who was represented by Director of Teaching Hospitals, Abisola Adegoke, commended UPTH for providing quality healthcare delivery services which he said, has touched lives of many Nigerians.
He further said that the theme of the celebration resonates proudly the vision of collective efforts towards providing a quality healthcare.
While congratulating UPTH for multi- discipline team and continued improvement of infrastructure and welfare of all Nigerians , the health minister enjoined the management of UPTH to sustain the tempo.
The event witness featured categories of award presentations to forner Rivers State Governors on good governance, community leaders for service to humanity, traditional Rulers, Clergy, as well as past and present CMD UPTH, among others.
