Chairman, All Progressive Congress ( APC) in Rivers State, Chief Hon. Tony Okocha has commended the people of the State for coming in their large numbers to vote for the All Progressive Congress APC, during the August 30,2025, local government election.
Chief Okocha made the commendation in a media briefing with journalists on September 2,2025, at the APC state secretariat in port Harcourt.
Hon . Okocha also applauded the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission ( RSIEC) , the security agencies, and the media for their roles in ensuring a free, fair and credible election, saying that it was devoid of violence and any form of crisis.
” As a party in Rivers State, we wish to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National working committee ( NWC) of the party for representing and reviving the APC in Rivers State”.
Chief Tony maintained that APC would continue to woo the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT),His Excellency, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike, and the members of the Rivers House of Assembly and other critical stakeholders across the state to join the APC.
” He recalled that the APC in Rivers State won 20 local government areas out of the 23 local government chairmanship seats in Rivers State in the 2025 local government election, while the People’s democratic party ( PDP)won Three (3) seats during the election, describing the outcome of the election as ” a prelude to what would happen in 2027″, positing that APC is growing strength in the state and across Nigeria.
His words,” We have just tested the water to see our strength in our state, and it’s proven beyond reasonable doubt that we are very strong as a party, here in Rivers State”.
” So, it is very safe to submit that the victory of the APC in the just concluded local government election is a prelude to what will happen in 2027″, Okocha summed up.
” This momentum will be sustained and built upon in the lead – up to the 2027 general elections, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expected to field for a second term in office”, he posited.
On the expected return of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara to office, Okocha affirmed that Governor Fubara would return to office by September 18,2025, adding that APC members and the newly elected local government chairmen would cooperate with his administration, even as he maintained that he would criticize his policies and programs where necessary for the overall interest of Rivers State, and for the good of the Rivers State people.
