Authorities in Kano State have confirmed the arrest of 11 students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the shocking deaths of two of their schoolmates.
The victims, identified as Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked with sharp metal objects locally referred to as “Gwale-Gwale,” leading to nationwide outrage and demands for justice.
Kano State Commissioner of Education, Ali Makoda, swiftly responded to the public outcry by ordering a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Providing an update on the case, police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna said that 11 students have been apprehended and are currently being interrogated to determine their level of involvement in the fatal assault.
“The investigation is ongoing, and all those found responsible will face prosecution,” Haruna assured.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Abbas Abdullahi, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He appealed to students to remain law-abiding and avoid resorting to violence.
He also emphasized that the state government is committed to a full-scale inquiry, stating, “We are determined to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.”
The heartbreaking incident has once again raised questions about student discipline, school safety, and the urgent need for conflict resolution programs within Nigerian schools.
