In a successful joint operation, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have neutralized 10 Boko Haram insurgents during a fierce confrontation near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, specifically along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala corridor in Borno State.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the development on Tuesday, describing the encounter as a coordinated effort to root out remaining elements of Boko Haram and their ISWAP affiliates in the Lake Chad Basin region.
He revealed that the operation was initiated based on actionable intelligence, which led troops to a terrorist hideout between the towns of Rann and Gamboru. The mission escalated into a heavy exchange of fire, ultimately resulting in the deaths of 10 terrorists, who were outgunned by the superior firepower of the combined forces.
After the encounter, troops secured a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition, including anti-aircraft munitions. The recovered arms are currently undergoing analysis, while follow-up operations are in progress to locate fleeing insurgents and uncover more hideouts.
General Kangye stressed that the operation forms part of ongoing military efforts to maintain control over the southern Lake Chad region and to halt the movement of insurgents across the border.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces, in collaboration with MNJTF, local hybrid forces, and other security partners, to sustain pressure in northern Borno and the wider Lake Chad axis until all terrorist threats are eliminated.
