The Sokoto State Government has expressed readiness to explore peaceful dialogue with armed groups willing to lay down their arms and reintegrate into society.
This was disclosed in a statement released by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Retired Colonel Ahmed Usman, who emphasized the administration’s commitment to lasting peace through non-violent means.
According to Usman, the government recognizes that many longstanding conflicts around the world have found resolution not solely through the use of force but through dialogue and reconciliation.
“The door remains open for negotiations with any group or individuals who sincerely want to surrender and embrace peace. Our goal is to end bloodshed and rebuild trust within our communities,” he stated.
Usman also extended deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, military chiefs, and all security operatives for their ongoing efforts in protecting the region. He offered prayers for fallen soldiers, acknowledging their sacrifices and the pain of their bereaved families.
In light of the federal government’s plan to deploy Forest Guards, the adviser emphasized the need for transparency and trust in the recruitment process. He recommended that the guards work under the close supervision of recognized security agencies to maintain discipline and avoid abuse of power.
He further highlighted the importance of effective communication between security operatives and the communities they serve, saying that strong collaboration is key to sustainable peace and mutual understanding.
The government’s stance reflects a broader commitment to balancing military operations with community-based peacebuilding strategies aimed at long-term stability in Sokoto State.
