Fresh findings have cast doubt on Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s claims regarding a recent travel dispute with Air Peace, as checks reveal he never completed the airline’s online check-in process contrary to his public statements.
Earlier this week, SaharaReporters had detailed how the former Edo State governor caused a stir at a Nigerian airport by obstructing access to the terminal after allegedly missing his Air Peace flight. Eyewitnesses claimed the Edo North senator caused a gridlock by refusing to vacate the entrance, delaying several passengers and disrupting airport operations.
Rather than acknowledge that he arrived late, witnesses say Oshiomhole directed blame at airline staff, accusing them of unprofessional conduct. The lawmaker, however, insisted he had followed all proper procedures including online check-in before being denied boarding.
But a recent verification conducted by SaharaReporters using the senator’s ticket reference number on the Air Peace website showed *no record of any completed online check-in* for the flight in question.
At a media briefing held shortly after the incident, Oshiomhole defended his actions, claiming he arrived at the terminal shortly after 6:00 a.m. for a 6:30 a.m. flight and was unjustly prevented from boarding. He said he had booked the flight the day before for himself and two Ghanaian companions and specifically ensured online check-in was done to avoid last-minute issues.
“I got there at about five minutes past six. They told me the counter was closed. I told them I had already checked in online and didn’t even have any luggage,” Oshiomhole said, insisting that others were allowed through while he was barred.
The disagreement has since drawn the attention of the *Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo*, who acknowledged the incident publicly. In a post via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Keyamo revealed that he has been in contact with both Oshiomhole and Air Peace representatives.
“I’ve instructed all aviation agencies to remain neutral and hear all sides before issuing any statements or judgments,” he stated.
The development continues to spark debate on social media, with Nigerians divided over the senator’s conduct and the responsibilities of airline operators regarding boarding deadlines.
