Nigerians have been charged to rise up to their challenges and fight for their rights, rather than sit down to complain and blame President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
National Chairman, South South Democratic Movement, Prince Favour Reuben gave the charge while speaking to journalists in port Harcourt, on his message to Nigerians, the electorates, religious leaders and political leaders on June 12 Democracy Day celebration.
Prince Reuben said that the problems in Nigeria is not about Mr. President, but it lies with the electorates who sit down to complain about governance, pointing out that it is the electorates who ought to rise up and protest when there is no good governance or when the dividends of democracy is not trickling down.
According to Prince Reuben, the political office holders, especially the Governors, Senators, House of Representatives Members and the Local Government Chairmen are the ones to be held accountable when there are no dividends of democracy.
Reuben lamented that despite huge allocations available to the Governors,, Senators, House of Representatives Members and the Council Chairmen, yet there is nothing to show for it.
He regretted that the political office holders, instead of establishing industries in their various states and constituencies, they siphon money to buy houses, lands, estates and expensive cars and give in return to their electorates rappers and distribute miserable rice to the people.
Prince Reuben opined that Nigeria ought to celebrate Democracy Day because, according to him, the worst democracy is better than the best military rule, even as he stated that Rivers State now is stagnated due to emergency rule in the state.
He posited that the South South Democratic Movement would ensure that every Governor, Senator, Rep Members and the Local Government Chairmen account for the money that they receiving. He pointed out that despite the establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, South South Development Commission SSDC and the Niger Delta Basin Authority, yet the region is underdeveloped.
On the issue of lifting the suspension on Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on June 12, Reuben said that he would not want to comment on that because, even Siminalayi Fubara has said that his spirit had long left Government House, regretting that those who pushed Siminalayi Fubara into trouble are still the same people carrying rumours here and there that Mr president would lift the suspension of Siminalayi Fubara on June 12 because, according to him, their pockets have gone dry and they are hungry.
