As Nigeria marks Democracy Day on June 12,HRH, Eze Amb, Dr Emeka Ihunwo JP, Paramount Ruler of Woji Community, Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has issued a heartfelt Royal advisory to Nigerians, urging unity, vigilance, and a renewed commitment to the Democratic ideals upon which the nation stands.
Eze Ihunwo, in a statement delivered from his palace in Woji Community today, the Royal Highness described democracy Day as “not merely a day of remembrance, but a solemn call to action for every Nigerian leaders and citizens alike”.
“Democracy is not just about elections or politics, it is about Justice, equity and service to the people. As custodians of culture and conscience, traditional institutions remain pillars of stability in a fast -changing Nigeria”, Eze Ihunwo stated.
Reflecting on the significance of the Day, which commemorates the historic June 12,1999, presidential election widely regarded as the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s history, the Woji Monarch emphasized the role of the people in sustaining democracy.
“Let us remember that the power of democracy lies not only in the ballot, but in the everyday conduct of leadership and citizenship”.
We must build bridges, not walls, ethnic and religious divisions must give way to unity and common purpose “,he opined.
Addressing young Nigerians, the People’s monarch, Eze Woji further encouraged civic participation, responsible engagement on social media, and a dedication to peace building. He also called on political leaders to prioritize national interest above personal gain.
” Democracy without good governance is a betrayal to those who died for our freedom. Let June 12 remind us that the struggle continues -not for power, but for the prosperity and dignity of every Nigerian “,he said.
Eze Ihunwo also called for a partnership between traditional institutions and government at all levels to entrench democratic values, preserve heritage, and ensure a more united, peaceful, and prosperous nation.
Eze Ihunwo used the opportunity to facilitate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander In- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on 12 celebration of the Democracy Day, and his Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians, He also expressed gratitude to Mr President for the appointment of our illustrious Son and Brother, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike, CON, GSSRS, Pos Africa and Life Bencher as the FCT Minister. Undoubtedly, while describing the FCT Minister as a bridge builder and the face of Nigeria Politics, Eze Ihunwo asserted that Wike’s developmental strides and outstanding performances has tremendously changed the face of the FCT, even as he enjoined the capacity FCT Minister Wike not to relent in taking Nigeria to greater heights.
