Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has hailed the defection of Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a bold and historic shift with far-reaching implications for the South-South region.
In a congratulatory message released on Saturday, Governor Okpebholo praised Eno’s decision to embrace the “progressive vision” of the APC, calling it a courageous step toward strengthening national unity and fostering regional development.
“This move demonstrates Governor Eno’s strong sense of responsibility and foresight for the future of Akwa Ibom,” Okpebholo stated. “It aligns the state with the federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda and sets the stage for deeper collaboration and greater development outcomes.”
He added that the defection would create fresh opportunities for investments and partnerships, accelerate democratic gains, and bring Akwa Ibom closer to key national economic frameworks.
According to him, synergy between state governments and the federal administration is essential for inclusive national growth. He expressed optimism that Eno’s entry into the APC fold would boost the party’s strength in the South-South zone and reinforce efforts toward national cohesion.
Governor Okpebholo also assured Eno of full support from the Edo State Government and the wider APC family, expressing eagerness to work together on initiatives that promote effective governance, economic growth, and improved livelihoods for Nigerians.
