Pastor Enoch Adeboye, leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has attributed Nigeria’s ongoing survival to the persistent prayers of its citizens, warning that the country’s condition could have been far worse without spiritual intervention.
Speaking during RCCG’s monthly Thanksgiving service in Ebute-Metta, Lagos which also featured a special intercession for security forces and paramilitary personnel, Pastor Adeboye responded to skeptics who question the impact of years of national prayers.
“There are people who ask, ‘After all the prayers and fasting, what has changed?’ But I just smile,” he said. “If not for those prayers, things would be far more devastating than they are now. That’s the truth many don’t realize.”
His sermon, centered on the theme *“Under the Almighty’s Covering”*, highlighted what he called the church’s unique experiences of divine preservation over the decades. According to Adeboye, RCCG enjoys spiritual protection that has shielded it from disasters time and again.
He recounted how a property in the United States, used for RCCG fellowship, remained untouched while surrounding buildings were damaged by flooding. Similarly, he referenced a fire outbreak at Otedola Bridge in Lagos, where an RCCG building survived unscathed while adjacent structures were razed.
“I’m not here to promote denomination,” he noted, “but there’s something unusual about this ministry, a kind of divine insurance that keeps showing up in moments of danger.”
Adeboye emphasized that God’s presence doesn’t always announce itself visibly but offers real safety to those who walk with Him. “No matter your age or your status, true protection comes from God alone.”
Also speaking during the service, Pastor Folu Adeboye led heartfelt prayers for national stability and for those in positions of leadership. She urged the congregation to ask God for mercy on behalf of the president and for guidance throughout his time in office.
The service served not only as a time of thanksgiving but also as a moment of national reflection, reinforcing RCCG’s ongoing commitment to pray for peace, security, and divine intervention across the country.
