A coordinated security operation in Anambra State has led to the destruction of a bomb-making facility believed to be operated by armed separatist groups. The raid, carried out by a joint team of the Police, Nigerian Army, and local vigilante forces, took place in Isekke, a community in Ihiala Local Government Area near the Imo State border.

According to a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command, the security forces stormed a heavily guarded camp where the armed group had been assembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for use in attacks across the region. The raid led to the recovery and safe detonation of several of these dangerous weapons.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the camp had served as one of the last major operational bases for the group, which had maintained a strong and violent presence in the area for over two years. The terrain, surrounded by dense forest and bordering the troubled Orsu area in Imo State, made it difficult for law enforcement to access until now.

During the operation, one of the IEDs buried around the perimeter of the facility exploded, causing significant damage to a section of the road. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded among the security personnel or civilians.

“The explosive device was strategically placed to stop access to the camp, acting as a shield for the criminals. Despite that, the operatives successfully pushed through and neutralized the facility,” Ikenga said.

He added that this marks a major victory in the ongoing effort to reclaim troubled communities from the grip of criminal elements. The security forces have since intensified their operations in the region to prevent any possible regrouping or resurgence of violence.

“This successful raid is part of a sustained security offensive aimed at restoring law and order in the state. We remain committed to flushing out all criminal elements threatening the peace of Anambra,” the PPRO stated.

Residents of the area have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as security presence in the region continues to be reinforced.
