MRS MARIA OLIGBI-EDEKO, DEPUTY SPEAKER EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Maria Oligbi-Edeko (PDP – Esan North East II), has voluntarily stepped down from her position.
Her resignation comes in the wake of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) losing its majority status in the Assembly.
Oligbi-Edeko cited her commitment to justice, fairness, and equity across all constituencies as the reason for her decision.
Following a motion by the Majority Leader, Jonathan Aigbokhan (APC – Esan West), and seconded by Charity Airobarueghian (PDP – Ovia North East I), the House approved the release of all entitlements due to her.
Oligbi-Edeko was elected Deputy Speaker of the 8th Assembly on June 16, 2023.
Subsequently, Mr. Osamwonyi Atu (APC – Orhionmwon East) was unanimously elected as the new Deputy Speaker by members of the Assembly.
