The trial of three native doctors accused of preparing charms for suspected criminals and engaging in money rituals was stalled on Friday, May 16, 2025, due to their failure to appear in court.
The defendants — Chidozie Nwangwu (popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki), Onyebuchi Okocha (Onyeze Jesus), and Ekene Igboekweze (Eke Hit) — were absent when the case resumed at the Anambra State High Court in Awka, presided over by Justice Jude Obiorah.
No reason was given for their absence, and the defence counsel informed the court, “We were not even informed.”
The state government has accused the trio of aiding criminal activities by preparing charms and participating in money rituals. They had earlier pleaded not guilty during their arraignment on April 11, 2025.
Their arrests, which occurred in early March, were carried out by operatives of Agunechemba, the Anambra security outfit established under the state’s Homeland Security law.
Justice Obiorah has adjourned the case until June 20, 2025, for further proceedings.
This development is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing crackdown on native doctors through Operation Udogachi, a state initiative aimed at curbing ritual-related crimes.
