The President General of Ogbakor Etche, the apex Socio-cultural Organization of Etche ethnic nationality world wide, Dr. Silas Anyanwu (Esq) has vowed that the people of Etche ethnic nation would revisit the crisis that bedeviled Umuechem years ago with the view to correcting the injustice melted on them.
Dr. Anyanwu disclosed this to journalists while on courtesy visit to the Palace of His Royal Majesty, King, Barr. Onyekachi Amaonwu, JP. Eze Ebere Ugo (ix) of Ancient Eberi Omuma Kingdom ( Eze Omuma) and Chairman, Area Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs.
He expressed disappointment at both the state and federal government over what he described as lack of regards and injustice melted on Umuechem community even after the massacre that took the life a renowned traditional ruler of Igbo Kingdom, late HRH, Eze Sunday Ordu and his son with over hundred others.
He posited that many of the indigenes after a panel of inquiry was instituted and cheques were handed over to them as an assistance pending the commencement of the full rebuilding of the community were still holding those cheques uncleared as the community still wears devastating look.
He expressed worries that despite the abundant oil and gas deposit in the area, government seems to turn blind eyes on the development and welfare of the people and called on the government to as matter of urgency commence immediate compensation to all the victims or meet them in the court of law.
Also speaking, The President General applauded the people of Omuma Clan on their peaceful disposition stressing, that the ugly activities such as land grabbing, organ harvesting and other forms of criminalities are minimal in the area and charged them to maintain the tempo.
While appreciating His Majesty, King Amaonwu on his efforts in coordinating his Council of Chiefs, told him that they were in his palace to introduce the new Exco of Ogbakor Etche after the December 26th convention and intimate him on their agenda for Etche people.
He disclosed that Ogbakor Etche would soon commence construction work at Okpuru-Oba heritage museum, institute empowerment and scholarship for indigenes which would be selected from each of the six Clans of Etche, tackled the exclusion of Etche representatives on the PANDEF visit to Mr. President, instituted a court case against sand dredgers at Chokocho and Umuechem, spoken against the killings at Umuakuru Igbo, land grabbing, organ harvesting among others.
In his response, His Majesty, King, Barr. Onyekachi Amaonwu thanked Ogbakor Etche led by Dr. Anyanwu for the visit. He advised them to be united while illustrating the power of unity with a stick of broom and a bundle of broom.
He opined, that the secret of the peace they enjoy in Omuma as a Clan and Local Government was the inclusivity of all relevant stakeholders including leaders of okada drivers, DSS, Police, other security agencies in their security meetings.
He also revealed that the issue of land grabbing cannot be experienced as there is a standing law which empowers him to counter sign on any land sold by the supposed owners for validity.
According to him, we do not only have laws that would enable landlord to painstakingly study any prospecting tenants before releasing house to them, but watch their activities for the peace of the area.
