In a dramatic turn of events, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has officially submitted a sworn affidavit, leveling grave accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The senator alleges a calculated abuse of power, political persecution, and a deliberate attempt to sabotage her influence over a high-profile national project.

According to the affidavit, on January 30, 2025, President Bola Tinubu authorized the commissioning of five mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
As the Senator representing Kogi Central and Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, Akpoti-Uduaghan became a key figure in the discussions surrounding the project—a role she claims Senate President Akpabio sought to undermine.
She asserts that Akpabio wrongly perceived her as wielding too much influence over the LNG projects and, in response, launched a politically motivated attack against her.

In what Akpoti-Uduaghan describes as an unprecedented act of political sabotage, Akpabio abruptly stripped her of her position as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content on February 4, 2025.
According to her sworn statement, this move was engineered to erase her involvement in the LNG project and pave the way for its relocation to the Niger Delta region.
She further alleges that Akpabio orchestrated a media smear campaign through Senior Legislative Aides, spreading propaganda to justify taking the project away from Kogi State.

Beyond her removal from the committee, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of deliberately humiliating her in the Senate, allowing her to be publicly questioned over an alleged “flagrant disregard” of protocol—despite her invoking privilege in her defense.
“I firmly believe these actions were malicious and intended to diminish my role,” she stated in the affidavit.
She affirmed her readiness to provide further evidence to expose what she calls a calculated political assault on her career and integrity.
“I deposed to this affidavit in good faith, believing the content to be true and in accordance with the Oaths Act,” she declared.
