President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the National Assembly for its swift approval of the State of Emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a decisive step toward restoring stability after months of political turmoil.
A Critical Intervention
In a statement released on Thursday, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed Tinubu’s appreciation for Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other lawmakers.
The President commended their leadership, highlighting their commitment to security and governance over political interests.
Tinubu Justifies the Emergency Rule
The President stressed that the lawmakers’ review of classified security reports reinforced the need for intervention to prevent economic and security crises.
“The crisis in Rivers State was at a perilous tipping point, threatening the security of vital oil and gas installations and undermining the national economy,” Tinubu stated.
“The near-total collapse of governance, threats to federal economic assets, and the risk of widespread violence left no room for hesitation.”
The Role of the Sole Administrator
Tinubu reiterated that the six-month emergency rule would give the newly appointed Sole Administrator the power to:

✔ Address systemic breakdowns
✔ Facilitate dialogue among conflicting factions
A Call for National Unity
The President emphasized his commitment to collaborating with the National Assembly to promote peace, economic resilience, and equitable development across Nigeria.
