The Rivers state Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been asked to resign honorably or be impeached.
State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress ( APC) Chief Hon. Tony Okocha made the declaration in a media briefing with journalists at his private residence in port Harcourt.
The fresh demand by Hon. Tony Okocha for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resign within 48 hours or face impeachment, is coming shortly after the State Governor invited the 27 state lawmakers to government house port harcourt for a dialogue.
Chief Tony Okocha accused Governor Sim Fubara of disrespecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in his style of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers state.
According to Hon. Okocha, Governor Siminalayi Fubara failed to honor the peace initiatives led by the President, prompting the APC to take a firm stance.
His words, ” As a political party, we are today advising the Governor, there are two options, resign honorably or be impeached. That is the position of the All Progressive Congress”, Okocha said.
He further stated, ” He has disrespected Mr. President, and we told him that we cannot be here and have him disrespect Mr. President.” The offences are there. The supreme court has agreed and even provided us with more evidence. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him”.
Chief Tony Okocha emphasized that the APC would not tolerate any defiance from the Governor, insisting that he should step down immediately.
He said,” 48 hours is too much to give him as an ultimatum. He should just resign honorably “, Okocha added.
On the issue of August 9,2025 , as proposed by the Rivers state independent electoral commissio( RSIEC) for the local government council elections, Chief Tony Okocha said that the All Progressive Congress APC in the state was not invited to the stakeholders meeting called by the Chairman of the commission, Justice Adolphus Enebeli Rtd, regretting that as Chairman of the state All Progressive Congress, he was invited to such an important meeting through ordinary telephone text message.
He used the opportunity to commend the State House of Assembly , led by Rt Hon Martin Ameawhule as one of the faces of democracy.
Okocha affirmed that the Rivers State House Of Assembly has the right to summon the Governor to present budget and or submit list of commissioner nominees, including other political appointees, pointing out that all that the Rivers State House of Assembly did was within the ambit of the law.
