In the midst of Rivers State’s intensifying political storm, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed deep gratitude to the people of the state for their unwavering support, urging them to stand firm for truth as the battle for power continues to unfold.
Speaking on Friday at the inauguration of the rehabilitated Fire Service Station in Rumuodomanya, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Fubara assured citizens that his administration remains committed to doing what is right, despite mounting political opposition.
A State Divided: The Supreme Court Ruling and Its Fallout
The Supreme Court’s recent ruling reinstated the Martins Amaewhule-led members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who have been locked in a bitter standoff with the governor. Additionally, the court sacked all elected local government chairmen, further deepening the state’s political turmoil.
Despite these developments, Fubara remains resolute, calling on his supporters to continue backing him in the fight for justice and good governance.
“I want to appreciate the people of Obio/Akpor for their support—I can feel it here. I want to appreciate the good people of Rivers State for believing in us. Your trust is not misplaced; you are standing on the side of truth,” the governor declared.

Fubara emphasized that his government’s focus remains on delivering essential services, with the rehabilitation of the fire station serving as a testament to his commitment. “This project is about safeguarding lives and property. Our people’s interests remain our top priority,” he affirmed.
Calls for Peace: “Rivers State Must Move Forward”
At the event, Chief Hanny Woko, a former ally of Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, called for an end to the political crisis, stating that the unrest is tarnishing Rivers State’s reputation.
“Rivers State is constantly in the news for negative reasons, and we condemn that. Other states experience political disagreements but find a way to resolve them. We should emulate Lagos, where politicians put the state first,” Woko stated.
He urged Rivers politicians to rise above personal interests and find a peaceful resolution, adding, “Governor Fubara will come out of this crisis unscathed and will complete his two terms as provided by the constitution.”

Despite the ongoing distractions, Fubara’s administration continues to push forward with key projects, proving that governance remains a priority.
Woko praised the governor’s resilience, saying, “At a time like this, you are still commissioning projects. Rivers people will protect this democracy and support you. As an Ikwerre man, I acknowledge that our ethnic group has had the privilege to lead for 16 years uninterrupted—equity demands that the Ijaw people serve their full tenure.”
