DOCTOR SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR N127 MILLION FRAUD SCHEME

In a stunning turn of events, Dr. Geraldine Orok Ita, a respected medical professional, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of a high-stakes fraud that left a trail of deception and millions of naira unaccounted for. The Federal High Court in Calabar, Cross River State, found Ita guilty of defrauding the University of Calabar and forging critical documents that diverted a staggering N127 million into her hands.

 

The fraudulent scheme unraveled after a 2019 petition from two directors of Sharpnet Concept Limited and ROK Projects Limited. The allegations were damning—Ms. Ita had manipulated company records to her advantage, falsely claiming to be the second wife of a deceased man to gain control of the companies. She had even altered share allocations and appointed herself as company secretary, all the while siphoning off money meant for legitimate projects.

 

Despite pleading not guilty, the evidence was overwhelming. The prosecutions case, led by Joshua Abolarin, presented forged documents, questionable bank transfers, and a clear trail of money laundering that sealed Dr. Itas fate.
