IKWERRE NOT IGBO– GENERAL ASABUJA.
A front line freedom fighter for emancipation of the niger delta region known as General Gabriel Asabuja has declared that the ikwerre( Ihwuruohna) people are not from igbo and does not have any igbo lineage.
General Asabuja made the declaration in an interview with our reporter at his residence at Rukpaklusi, in Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The ikwerre born freedom fighter for the liberation of the Niger Delta Region on resource control described all the stories flying around that ikwerre is igbo as a typical lie.
Asabuja said that , yes, ikwerre people married plenty of the igbo women into ikwerre land , pointing out that apart from marrying plenty of the igbo women, there were also mass transportation of the igbo people to ikwerre land with lorries and traillers conveying the igbo people to ikwerre land after the civil war, in which most of the igbos coming from Aba were dumped and they settled at Igwuruta,Isiokpo and Oyibo local government area.
According to Asabuja, the spread of the igbos in ikwerre land were as as a result of marriage, pointing out that the ikwerre men married plenty of the igbo women and at the end ,they named their chikdren Chukwuemeka, Chibuzor,Anele among others ,adding that in that order the population of the igbos expanded beyound imagination in ikwerre land .
The eloquent and versatile son of the soil opined that ikwerre people’s lineage is Benin, asserting that the ikwerre people migrated from Benin ,along side with his Ahoada and Ogba( Omoku) brothers and he wondered how a right thinking person would say that ikwerre people are igbo.
His word,” the ikwerre people, no doubt married plenty igbo women, both the igbo and ikwerre have good and strong relationship, and ikwerre people are free and accomodating , hence, it appears as if ikwerre is igbo, they are not,” Asabuja summed up.
” We love igbo people so much,we married plenty of their women,and they tend to dorminate the ikwerre people,its because of love,ikwerre people are open handed and free people,with especially the igbo people, ” he said.
The General expressed disatisfaction that it is only in Rivers here that people are saying that ikwerre people are bad landlords.
” He said ,go to lagos and other places and live there as a tenant without paying your rent for one month and you see what they will do to you and you will cherish that ikwerre people are good.”
In a similar development, Asabuja said that the igbos from Imo state, Enugu,Abia and Anambra are using the resoures from ikwerre land to build houses and develop their areas, pointing out that even the igbo women that are married to ikwerre took the resources in ikwerre land to develop their villages.
Speaking on Senator John Mbata emerging as president- General of Ohaneze Ndigbo world wide, Asabuja said that it is not wrong for Sen. Mbata to take up the position as Ohaneze Ndigbo, because ,according to him, Ohaneze Ndigbo is an organization or associatio that any interested person can join them,even as he described the position of Ohaneze Ndigbo as political.
He used the opportunity to enjoin all and sundry to leave Sen. Mbata alone to function as president – General , Ohaneze Ndigbo, insisting that everything is political.
